Pre-Installation

  1. Before you install Oracle8 Enterprise Edition for Windows NT review the hard copy Release Notes.
  2. Review Chapter 2 of Oracle8 Enterprise Edition Getting Started for Windows NT for product information.
  3. Install and test your network hardware and software, if applicable.
  4. Decide which installation type you want to perform:
    For this Installation Type...  Review...

    Install Oracle8 Enterprise Edition on a system containing no previous version.

    This document

    Upgrade Oracle8 Enterprise Edition from a previous release of Oracle8 Enterprise Edition.

    Chapter 7 "Database Coexistence and Migration" of Oracle8 Enterprise Edition Getting Started for Windows NT and this document.

    Migrate to Oracle8 Enterprise Edition from a previous version of Oracle7 Server.

    Chapter 7 "Database Coexistence and Migration" of Oracle8 Enterprise Edition Getting Started for Windows NT and this document.

    Install Oracle8 Enterprise Edition into multiple Oracle homes or into the same Oracle home as Oracle7 Server.

    Chapter 7 "Database Coexistence and Migration" and Chapter 6 "Using Multiple Oracle Homes" of Oracle8 Enterprise Edition Getting Started for Windows NT and this document.

    Attention::

    Two versions of Oracle8 Enterprise Edition for Windows NT cannot co-exist in the same home directory if they are of the same major release (for example, release 8.0.5 and release 8.0.4) because they depend on common files; one overwrites the other. Starting with release 8.0.4, they can be successfully installed in separate home directories.

    IMPORTANT:

    If you purchased Oracle Web Application Server, install the Oracle Web Application Server CD-ROM first.

    If you attempt to install the Oracle Web Application Server CD-ROM after installing Oracle8 Enterprise Edition, dialog boxes appear asking if you want to downgrade the software components. Answer No to these messages. Also, Oracle Web Application Server must be installed and running prior to installing Oracle8 ConText Cartridge Viewer Cartridge and/or Oracle8 ConText Configuration Manager.
